The spread of retail chains in Belgium and the Netherlands
For years on end, the number of retail chains has increased. In Belgium, this is still the case, but in the Netherlands, a change has recently come about.
In Belgium, the share of retail chains against independent businesses is 23.6%. This means that 19,486 of 82,476 retail outlets are part of a retail chain. In the Netherlands, the share of retail chains has virtually stabilised over the past three years at 37%. In this country, 36,421 of 97,554 retail outlets are part of a retail chain.
We also blog about the trends that we observe, including the growing or decreasing share of chains.
